The Infamous Half Price List

Many campus bookstores will tell you that they buy books back at 50% of what you paid for them, but what they don't tell you is that it is limited to a small number of titles with a fixed quantity per title. This means that they will only buy a few copies of certain books that they know they will be selling next semester. Unfortunately many professors do not turn in the list of books they'll be using until weeks after buyback, meaning that the bookstore's list of books they need is usually very limited.

What is a Retail Book List?

There may be some books that your on-campus bookstore will buy back at 50% of the retail price to fill their shelves. These "retail buyback" books are bought in limited quantities and if you want to get top dollar for them, you have to sell your books early. Otherwise, if the bookstore is not buying your book at a retail buyback price, you will benefit from shopping around a bit and checking out our local service. Always check around for the best prices.

What do you do with these textbooks?

We are Pennsylvania-based company that buys textbooks at higher prices than our competitors. We then discount these books and sell them at lower prices on Penntext.com to students who desperately need the savings provided by USED books.

How are Buyback Prices Calculated?

We use several different factors when calculating prices:

  1. Is the book being used next semester?
Books being used the following semesterhave a higher buyback value because stores are more confident that they are able to resell the book. This is where the half price list comes into play.
  2. National Demand
Books that are in high national demand typically have a higher cash value.
  3. New Edition?
Often times books that have a new edition either out or coming out will see resale value fall dramatically.
